U.S. Rep. Bob Filner (D-Chula Vista) has joined the race for mayor of San Diego.

Currently the chairman of the House of Representatives Veterans’ Affairs Committee and on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Filner represents California’s 51st Congressional District, encompassing the Southern half of the county as well as all of Imperial County and the border. He was elected to Congress in 1992.

Other announced candidates for major include Republican District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, Republican Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, and Republican San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio.
