Shining Star: Using Her Musical Abilities to Attain Success, and Giving Back Along the Way
“Music has been an integral part of my life from an early age and allowed me to express myself through a unique medium,” offered Jasmine Wang, a 92129 resident and student at Westview High School. Jasmine, who has been playing the violin since 4th grade has been extremely successful in her musical endeavors. Now, as she prepares for her senior year, Jasmine is committed to integrating her passion for music into her future.
Jasmine’s interest in music first began around age four when she observed her older brother Joshua playing the piano. “I remember him playing a piece composed by Kabalevsky and being completely intrigued and fascinated by the melodies,” she shared. But it wasn’t until she started private violin lessons in 5th grade that her abilities really advanced. “With the help of my private teachers Mr. and Mrs. Tseitlin and other supportive people such as my parents, I have been able to quickly improve my skills,” said Jasmine.
Indeed she has. As a part of San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS), Jasmine recently won the Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Concert Competition – a prestigious honor among her fellow musicians. Of her win, she said, “I definitely feel that everyone performed at such a high level and I’m proud to be surrounded by incredible students who share the same passion for music as me.” Another highlight of Jasmine’s musical career came this past June when she performed the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at the SDYS Spring Ovation Concert.[pullquote align=”right”]“I definitely feel that everyone performed at such a high level and I’m proud to be surrounded by incredible students who share the same passion for music as me.”[/pullquote]Despite her celebrity-like status among her peers, Jasmine remains humble, and she is committed to sharing her passion for music with others by performing at local libraries, churches, hospitals and community centers. “Giving back to the community has been an important goal for me since I have been blessed with many opportunities and an encouraging, supportive environment,” she explained.
After high school, Jasmine plans on attending a four-year university where she will pursue a double major in music and science. “I hope to keep music with me for the rest of my life,” she said, “whether that would include performing in a prestigious orchestra or teaching other students.”[box title=”At A Glance” color=”#333333″]
