A New Town Tradition
TheSan Diego County Fair in Del Mar is no doubt an annual tradition that is here to stay. But this year the folks at the Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council wanted to make a trip to the fair extra special for 92129 residents – by holding a PQ Day at the Fair. Former Community and Business Partnership Chairs Kristine Custodio and Armand Bryant were key in organizing this day. “PQ Day at the Fair was a day-long community celebration of what makes PQ a special place to live, work and play,” said Kristine.
The Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council, Peñasquitos Emergency Response Council (PERC) and Building Leaders As Servants Today (BLAST) were just a few of the many organizations that set up shop at the Infield Pavilion at the fair. “We were fortunate to have an appearance by San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts, who took the time to meet and greet fairgoers,” shared Armand. But how was this special day organized in the first place? It was happenstance, in fact, an idea that surfaced during the Fab Fair photo shoot at the Rancho Peñasquitos Library for the banners around PQ. The Fair and the Town Council Community and Business Partnerships Committee came together to brainstorm the possibilities and settled on a single day just for 92129 residents.
Armand added, “It was great interacting with the fairgoers. Some attendees mentioned not being familiar with the area, giving us the opportunity to discuss what the community has to offer and why we enjoy PQ, the place I have personally called home for many years.”
