The Adventure Continues

When Jon and Pam Burnard moved to the Crestmont neighborhood of Rancho Peñasquitos in 1996, the couple was looking for an area with houses close to nature, an excellent school district, and a strong sense of community. In 2002, the family, which now included twins Christy and Kevin, moved a mile and a half away to the Ridgeview neighborhood where they reside today. According to Jon, Christy and Kevin were sad to leave their Crestmont home, so he sweetened the deal by building a playhouse in the backyard of the new house. “I’m from England and the promised playhouse morphed into a three-story castle with unique features. It wasn’t just used when the kids were young – it was the site of many high school Nerf battles and was even a haunted castle for Halloween,” revealed Jon with a chuckle. The fun times in the family’s backyard are sure to be related to new friends and acquaintances as the twins embark on their latest adventure this fall, with Christy attending UC Davis as a design major and Kevin attending UC Santa Barbara and majoring in film.

Christy and Kevin graduated from Westview High School last spring as accomplished scholar athletes, both with four years on the varsity diving team, as well as the high school’s marching band. “Kevin was the first Westview diver to take first at CIF, and the first diver in 92129 history to take first at CIF for Division 1. Christy was captain of the women’s diving team and won the coach’s most outstanding award,” said Pam. Their love of diving began with trampoline classes and eventual competition – and trips to Nationals – in the sport. As stated by Pam, many of their teammates successfully transitioned to diving upon entering high school, and the twins were no exception.

With Christy and Kevin showing such athletic ability, it should come as no surprise that Pam and Jon met while participating in a sports-related endeavor. “We met skiing in Banff, Canada, at the Farwest Ski Association’s annual competition in 1994. We were in different San Diego-based ski clubs, yet kept running into each other in a group of 600 skiers. We were married two years later,” stated Jon, a computer engineer for Oracle. He and Pam, a registered health underwriter who is currently running an independent employee benefit business, still enjoy skiing, as well as camping, fishing, and traveling to the UK.
