Meet the Kellys

Life may be busy for the Kelly family, but they love every moment. Sean is the senior pastor at Peñasquitos Lutheran Church and serves as chairman of the board for the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), a national association of churches. Jenny is a teacher at Peñasquitos Christian Preschool. The family includes Sean and Jenny’s four sons – Lance, Kyle, Andrew, and Jack.

“Lance and his wife live in Irvine with their two young children, Kane and Riley. Kyle is a junior at UC Berkeley, where he is majoring in economics and plays for the ice hockey team. Andrew is a junior at Westview High School. He is a member of the marching band and plays inline hockey. Jack is in eighth grade at Mesa Verde Middle School. He plays clarinet in the school band and loves to play soccer,” stated Jenny. All four of the boys have also played Little League baseball, with Sean and Jenny participating as coach and team mom, respectively.

In 2007, Paul accepted the position of pastor at Peñasquitos Lutheran Church and the Kellys moved from the Minneapolis area. Since then, they have been a fixture in the local community. “Our entire family volunteers for our church and schools. Sean and I also help with various functions and needs for the Westview Gold Marching Band. Jack is an Eagle Ambassador at Mesa Verde, and Andrew volunteers on the tech team at church, running video and lighting for the Sunday evening service,” revealed Jenny.

The family enjoys combining two of their passions: traveling and serving others. In 2014, Sean, Jenny, Andrew, and Jack went on a short-term mission trip to South Africa. “We visited the Transkei region on the Eastern Cape. On this trip, Sean taught for a week at the only Bible college in the Transkei. The college trains native Xhosa people to pastor local village churches,” related Jenny. During their time in the Transkei region, she and Jack also visited and served a local preschool, and Andrew helped with youth clinics throughout the trip.

When at home in 92129, the Kellys enjoy spending time with their friends and with one another. Jenny shared, “We can often be found at the beautiful Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. We also love playing games at home and watching movies.”
