A Class Act
You might already recognize Marci Krown. Her acting skills have been featured in everything from local TV commercials to short films and music videos to the Oxygen series Snapped. “Life as an actress is very spontaneous and probably one of the most difficult careers,” Marci admitted. “Trying to get a role for a commercial, film, or TV show is so, so subjective. There is a lot of rejection in the business and you can’t take it personally.”
That was a tough pill to swallow for Marci when she first started out in the business 12 years ago. “I may have done an awesome job in the audition but I wasn’t the ‘right fit’ for the role…wrong height, size, not young enough, etc.,” shared Marci, who since that time has learned to let this aspect of the industry roll off her shoulders. “You basically have to go in with the attitude of ‘this is what I can do’ and then do your best, go home, and forget about it!’” To make sure she is always giving her best, Marci regularly partakes in acting classes, where she continues to hone her skills.
Marci – who has lived in PQ for 13 years – grew up in Cleveland, OH. “When I moved out here in 1997, I created and ran my own online business for five years,” she shared. Marci fell in love with her North County community for its central proximity and close-knit community feel. It was also in San Diego that Marci met her husband of 16 years with whom she has a son, a middle-schooler at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. “I was looking for something a bit more flexible so that I could spend more time with my son,” recalled Marci about how she began acting.
While she has no desire to be famous, Marci does enjoy making a living in this industry. “I would love to do more commercials on a national scale and even work in Hallmark films,” said Marci, who has recently written her own short film, currently in post-production. Marci was inspired to write the film by her rabbi, her acting colleagues, and her own drive to be a better actor. “I’ve had so much support among my cast and crew regarding the film and its wonderful message,” shared Marci. “I couldn’t have completed it without them!”
Aside from acting, Marci is an avid volunteer. “I’ve volunteered since I was 13 years old,” said Marci. “Honestly, I think I get more out of the volunteering than the people who need the help. I am currently instilling this value with my young son to carry out my family’s interests!”
