Local Boy Scout Derek Chow recently completed a project for the San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) as part of his Eagle Rank Leadership Project. With the help of family, friends, and fellow Scouts, Derek designed, cut, pinned, and sewed 15 kennel curtains for SDHS’s kitten nursery. The curtains cover all sides of the kennels, protecting the kittens from infectious diseases and making them feel comfortable and safe. “Derek did an outstanding job on his Eagle Project and showed exceptional commitment throughout,” said SDHS Educator Staci Hurley. “The curtains are an incredible asset to San Diego Humane Society’s kitten nursery, and will make a positive impact for many kitten seasons to come.”

Derek joined Boy Scouts four years ago and quickly moved up the ranks. He is currently the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 667, the highest position a Scout can hold in their troop. “Scouting has always been a very rewarding experience for me,” he said. “It’s taught me that I can make a difference in the world and lead others to do the same thing.”
