Fifth grader Katie Ditter is a born performer who is thriving at JCompany Youth Theatre. At JCompany, Katie has performed in Willy Wonka, Wicked, Once on This Island, Annie Warbucks, Mary Poppins, Annie, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, and Ragtime. She has also played an orphan in Annie at Oceanside’s Star Theatre, performed in musical cabarets with Sapphire Theatre Company and Breakthrough Workshop Theatre, and was featured in a Les Misérables concert with Blue Rose Theater Project. “I have been acting and dancing since preschool. I really enjoy singing too, and I perform mostly in musical theater productions,” Kate shared. “It’s great to do what I love with good friends. My theater group is like a second family to me. I am also inspired when I work with really talented people – I want to perform at that level too.”student_ditter3

Off the stage, Katie is actively involved in student government at Park Village Elementary School, serving as president. “I hope I am selected for ASB leadership when I go to Mesa Verde Middle School next year so that I can continue my involvement in student government. I also really enjoy organizing community service projects with friends,” stated Katie. When it comes to academics, this Student Star is partial to science, citing it as a subject that truly holds her interest and her love for detail.

“It’s great to do what I love with good friends.”

Katie finds time in between school and performances to play soccer and basketball, as well as take dance classes and sing in the temple choir at Congregation Beth Israel. “I have played soccer since I was five years old, and I am now the goalkeeper for my San Diego Soccer Club team. My dad played soccer in high school, and before I joined the club, he was my coach,” related Katie, who also revealed that she wishes she had more time to play basketball year-round. “I play point guard with Rancho Peñasquitos Recreation League. We even have a basketball hoop in my backyard and my family loves playing on the weekends,” said Katie.

This talented student is already thinking about the future and hopes to attend UCLA. While she has plenty of time to narrow down her choices, Katie is leaning toward studying performing arts, education, computer engineering, or architecture. Regardless of her choice, it is clear that Katie has a bright future ahead of her, both on and off the stage.
