PUSD Volunteer of the Year
WVHS Volunteer Among Those to Receive District Honors
Cathy Rogney of Westview High School is among the three recently named 2017 PUSD Volunteers of the Year. Rachel Allums of Twin Peaks Middle School and Jenny Burnett of Pomerado Elementary School are the other two Volunteers of the Year.
Cathy and her husband Scott have given thousands of hours of service to the students of Poway Unified. They have volunteered with Westview’s robotics program for many years, attending every weekend meeting and many weekdays during build season. In fact, there would be no robotics program at Westview without her. Cathy takes the time to mentor students and often teaches them skills beyond what the advisors can. She manages the robotics website, serves as a driver, and guides the business administration for the program. She also initiated start-up robotics programs at several local elementary and middle schools. She and the Westview students visit younger students to build up interest and appreciation for STEM learning. Her colleagues say, “Anything we need, we hear ‘I’ll do it!’ over and over again.”
PUSD recognizes outstanding volunteers who represent a high level of commitment to the students and staff at their respective school sites. Each school site in the district selects a volunteer of the year with Cathy, Rachel, and Jenny selected overall by the district. They were chosen from a very distinguished list of volunteers this year. Learn more at www.powayusd.com.
