Longtime 92129 resident Emmet Pierce received eight writing awards from the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in July. He won a first place award for “Brand Theft,” a legal affairs article he wrote for the San Diego Business Journal; a first place award for “How to Store the Declaration of Independence,” a science and technology article written for www.sparefoot.com; and another first place award for “The Right Field,” a business article he wrote for the San Diego Business Journal. He also won second place awards for business reporting and education writing, and honorable mentions for sports, real estate, and legal affairs writing. “I didn’t expect to win eight awards,” Emmet shared. “I feel very honored. Winning an award is validation of your work.” Emmet is a freelance writer who has written for numerous publications across the country.
