A Beautiful Community

It was a blind date that began the journey of Shannon and Patrick Nellies, and they have been going strong ever since! Shannon, Patrick, Hannah, Ryan, and Finn Nellies have been living in Rancho Peñasquitos for the past 15 years (they were there when there was no 56 freeway and a lot of construction traffic), and they’ve loved being able to live in this beautiful community while watching the kids grow up. The Nellies spend much time at Canyonside Community Park where the kids play baseball and softball. “We enjoy hiking back to the waterfall, going to the beach, and hanging out with family and friends,” Shannon said.

Shannon teaches science at Park Village Elementary School, recently taking over the science team there, along with her Rodan + Fields skincare business. “I love teaching science at Park Village,” she smiled. “I honestly believe that science can be so much fun and so interesting for everyone as long as you are not just reading a book about it – you have to do it.” Patrick is a founding partner of Advantage Law group, where he practices employment law. “In 2013 he received the Outstanding Advocate of the Year Award from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego,” Shannon shared, “for his work representing employees in San Diego County.” He’s very involved with the Rancho Peñasquitos Little League, where he sits on the board of directors as director of community partnerships, grants, and government affairs. He’s also served as assistant coach on Ryan’s intermediate team, was team manager for Finn’s Minors team, and was manager for the Rancho Peñasquitos American 9/10 All-Star team.

Daughter Hannah is a sophomore at Westview High School. She earned her Silver Award in Girl Scouts last year, plays on the Westview JV softball team, loves baking, and is involved in their church youth group, theater, and choir. Ryan is in seventh grade at Mesa Verde Middle School. “He is an avid reader who also loves baseball and beating his dad at chess,” Shannon laughed. Finn is in fifth grade at Park Village. “He is the athlete of the family,” Shannon said. “He played All-Stars for PQ Little League and is in his second year pitching for the California Lookouts travel baseball team.” Both boys are altar servers at their church.

Whatever the activity, the Nellies family is loving their life in Rancho Peñasquitos.
