Poway Unified Selects Honored Employees of 2018
Classified Employees of the Year
The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) has named Shelley Porter, Library Media Technician for Sunset Hills Elementary School, and Michele Cass, Administrative Assistant for Alternative Programs, as the 2018 PUSD Classified Employees of the Year. A committee of district and site representatives selected the two Classified Employees of the Year based on work performance, contributions to the district, and community service. PUSD nominated Shelley for the San Diego County Office of Education’s Classified Employee Recognition Program, which honors members of the classified service for all of San Diego County.
Shelley makes every visit to the library an experience where books come alive, real connections are made, and students have the opportunity to discover a love for learning. She welcomes adults with special needs to help in the library twice a week, and makes it a priority to assist teachers in incorporating technology into their teaching. Shelley also created a Thespian group for fifth grade GATE reading students, introducing them to Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, and the Roman Empire. The students have the opportunity to perform for their peers, parents, and in competitions against other Thespian groups in San Diego County.
Michele goes above and beyond the call of duty in support for PUSD administrators, teachers, staff, and students. She organizes the Adopt-A-Family program, provides support for the Youth in Transition program, and has taken on leadership roles to organize summer school and summer graduation. She has an exceptional work ethic and positive attitude.
