The City Council of the City of San Diego recently issued a proclamation making Jan. 23, 2018 Sophia M. Righthouse Day in honor of Westview High School student Sophia Righthouse. The proclamation recognizes Sophia’s lifesaving efforts after noticing and reporting a structure fire, being the first on the scene, and conducting evacuations of residents, directly utilizing her skills in handling emergency situations, which she learned during a FEMA Cert Training course. “Sophia might be small in stature, but her impact as a freshman on Westview’s campus has been huge,” said Westview Principal Tina Ziegler. “She is a dedicated, hardworking student and cadet in the NJROTC program at Westview who wears her uniform proudly.”

Sophia is also being recognized for her community service and many accomplishments within the Young Marines program, NJROTC, and Girl Scouts of America.
