PQ Council Connection
What’s New in PQ?
The summer is flying by now that the San Diego County Fair is over. Many of us are enjoying the Saturday morning farmers market, the free classes at the San Diego Public Library, and the many local community parks. The vacations will come to an end with the first day of school for Poway Unified School District on Aug. 22.
We have some news about recent budgetary changes impacting events and maintenance programs at the PQ Parks & Recreation Centers. The San Diego Parks & Recreation Department has made big budgetary changes in the use and distribution of collected local fees. Since 1997, PQ has offered community events using some of those collected fees such as the local fireworks in July, the Western BBQ in August, Oktoberfest in October, Winter Wonderland in December, and the annual egg hunts. Effective July 2018, most of these programs will be retired due to city wide budgetary shortfalls. The good news is the RP Town Council has elected to sponsor the upcoming Beer Garden at Oktoberfest and the fireworks program next July. We are dedicated to bringing community grants, sponsorships, and events to our community through community support and participation. Yes, some of these events will continue in the same locations, but it will be up to all of us to bring them to life through our support of the RP Town Council.
