Local Girl Scouts Help the Homeless
Local fifth graders in Girl Scout Troop 3118 recently completed their Bronze Award project. The girls spent three months learning about homelessness in San Diego and making 100 care packages for women and children, which they delivered to San Diego Rescue Mission in June. They collected donations from local businesses and families. The care packages included oral hygiene kits, toiletries, first aid kits, sunblock, sewing kits, blankets, tissues, pens and notepads, stuffed toys, and blankets.
“[The girls] are hoping that their care packages will help them feel wanted and special, and give them the confidence they need to get back on their feet again,” shared Troop Leader Celeste Jacob.
Troop 3118 includes Catherine Jacob, Emily McFarland, Eva Porter, Jyotsna Devadiga, Kyla Ho, Lauren Cotton, Marlie Berglie, Morghan Foster, Sophia Miller, and Sophia Staines. The troop is led by Celeste Jacob, Kara Porter, and Tammy Miller.
