Making a Difference

Radha Carollo of Rancho Peñasquitos has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the organization’s highest honor awarded to Girls Scouts for demonstrating extraordinary leadership by creating sustainable solutions that address society’s greatest challenges. For her Gold Award project, Radha connected refugees with the local community. She organized educational and social events and collected materials to create a permanent school supplies center at Jewish Family Service of San Diego. She also blogged for HIAS, a nonprofit that protects refugees, and hosted mixers like a Girls’ Culture Night and a Love Your Neighbor celebration.

“Our 2019 honorees embody everything this achievement stands for.”

Radha joined Girl Scout Troop 8713 as a Brownie and has also earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards. Her other honors include the Presidential Service Award. She is a senior at Francis Parker School and will graduate with honors and distinction in the Class of 2020.

Radha was among 61 Gold Award winners honored during a recent ceremony at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. “Gold Award Girl Scouts change the world for the better, and change it for good!” said Girl Scouts San Diego CEO Carol M. Dedrich. “Our 2019 honorees embody everything this achievement stands for.” For information on Girl Scouting opportunities in Rancho Peñasquitos, contact Victoria Vazquez at vvazquez@sdgirlscouts.org, or visit www.sdgirlscouts.org.
