Rancho Peñasquitos resident Emmet Pierce was recognized this summer by the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists. He won a total of six awards for his articles written for The San Diego Business Journal. His accolades included first-place awards for business, education, housing, and multicultural reporting. He also won second place for education writing and third place for business writing.

Pierce and his family moved to Rancho Peñasquitos in 2000. He began his journalism career as a newspaper reporter, and he has worked as a freelance journalist for the last decade.

The San Diego Society of Professional Journalists supports journalists, journalism educators, and students through professional development programs, scholarships, and networking support. The organization also promotes First Amendment rights, high journalistic standards, and diversity in journalism.
